Our
technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit.
As this is an 'all tube'
unit, prior to being powered up, we did an internal inspection on it.
Then we pulled all the tubes and individually tested them. We found that
one of the 6V6 output tube had no heater response. We also saw that the
multi-element, electrolytic, 'can' capacitor had visible leakage. The AC
mains fuse was blown / open. The tone-arm was tilted laterally in it's
mounting as well. 'Scratch Filter' switch was physically deteriorated /
broken thus in-operable.
ü
We sourced and replaced the
multi-element, 'can' electrolytic capacitor with another (American made,
OEM style). One of the replacements values was not correct, so we also
installed another electrolytic capacitor in it's place. We also replaced
the one other electrolytic capacitor in the unit. All the new
replacements were checked for ESR, Leakage (up to 450 Volts on our Heathkit IR-11) each element & actual capacitance. All performed above
and beyond their specs prior to install.

All controls / switches were
flooded with solvent and are now clean and quiet.
ü
Unit was gradually powered
up on a Vari-Ac, variable transformer up to standard 117VAC. No
excessive current draw was observed during the process.
ü
Upon powering up, we also
discovered that the two pilot lamps were out and were both replaced with
new bulbs #T47 / 25-020 6.3V / 150mA
ü
Both original, NEON 'Strobe'
lamps working
ü
Again, all tubes (ALL
AMERICAN, NO Chinese cheeeeese tubes!) were tested and one of the 6V6 output tubes were
replaced (with another old stock, American tube we had in our stash).
ü
The turntable drive and speed adjustment mechanism
was disassembled, cleaned & lubricated.
ü
The idler drive wheel was removed and resurfaced on
the vertical lathe, then re-conditioned with Rubber Re-Nue.
ü
Center carrier bearing and platter spindle cleaned and re-lubed.
ü
Thrust pad inspected and re-installed.
ü
New rubber bushing installed on
tone-arm mounting / bushing to 'true' it level.
ü
We sourced and replaced
a correctly sized DPDT
switch for the 'Scratch Filter' function.
ü
Platter mat still adhered fine with no warping
ü
Platter bushing in good shape with NO run-out (wobble)
ü
Currently
has LP / 45 RPM needle only installed. The 78 RPM needle could be
replaced but as few folks will need to play "78's", we didn't feel
the added expense to the final price to replace it was 'monetarily
practical'. If you wish to purchase it, AND cover the additional
expenses, we can order and install the additional stylus post
purchase.

Unit was cosmetically detailed overall. Speaker baffle removed to allow
full cleanup of cabinet. (metal speaker grill does have an area of light
corrosion on it. We improved it with a rubbing with Scotchbrite.

AC cord still supple with not cracking, stiffness, splitting or goo.
ü
Original 12", 'dual cone' speaker in great shape with no holes or tears.
ü
Turntable holds speed well. All functions test and
phonograph looks great! As a Guitar amp, IT'S A
BLAST.
ü
Overall, the unit looks
great. A few minor 'battle scars' scrapes here and there, but
nothing at all distracting. The metal speaker grill has a bit of a
discolored / grayish area (see photos above).

Great for just playing records in an 'old school'
way, calling Square Dances as it has a large speaker, 12" and has
an input for a microphone. Can also be used as a PA,
or a Guitar / Harp amp or in any combination of those ways. Plays
16, 33, 45 & 78 RPM records (you will need to source
a 78 needle if you want to play the 'old, original' 78's)

- Separate Bass and Treble (interestingly, by design, the 'Treble'
control operates in reverse of most others, meaning that the more
'clockwise' you turn it, the less treble you get. The "Bass" control
works in the normal 'clockwise' direction and increases)
- AUX / Radio input is level / volume controlled via 'Phono' level
control pot (connecting to the 1/4" AUX input, defeats the Phono
cartridge input signal)
- Microphone Input (also the place to plug in a guitar)
- Separate Volume level controls for the Phono and the Mic / Guitar

- Dual speaker output jacks (Cinch Jones, 2-pin connectors. Extra one

This is a "stand alone" unit with it's own built-in,
all tube amp and big 12"
speaker so no need to connect to another system to use. This thing GETS
LOUD! It does, however have an "Aux Out" so you can connect it to
another stereo / sound system,
mixing console or computer sound card. It is compatible with all
Stereo / Mono albums / records. Features Separate Bass & Treble,
Balance, volume and Microphone Volume, and speed adjustment controls.
1/4" Microphone input as well as a RCA" Aux Input. Dual Speaker
jacks. Feet have built in suspension to reduce noise / rumble from floor
noise. Unit is UL listed and has original 3-prong, grounded AC cord
intact for safety. Runs great. Following the
extensive tech work, this unit is now ready to use.
So there's a lot of talk on the interweb of this unit making a 'good
tube guitar amp'. It actually makes a 'GREAT' tube guitar amp.
Realize it's got 2x 6V6 output tubes (same as in the highly sought
after, Fender Deluxe) and a 12AX7 in the pre-amp. I played it
extensively at multiple volume levels with both it's internal
speaker and with an extension I have around the shop. The 'Amp'
sounds great. If you're going to use it for guitar or harp (I also
tried it with a crystal mic and harp) I would change the speaker.
It's got it's full-range, Dual-Cone which isn't designed for guitar.
Something like a Jensen, C-12R would work well.
This unit looks incredible in the dark as well. Very elegant, but
subtly lit face when powered up.
Tone-arm is missing it's 'lift handle' (broken off). Does have a
stylus installed, but unable to identify which it is. Seems to
perform well and sound fine on either LP's / 45's or 78's.
Looks good, works and sounds GREAT! Includes our standard 30
day limited warranty.
Also comes with spare (Cinch Jones) speaker plug
/ connector if you want to connect a different / additional speaker
down the as an alternative.

This is a "stand alone" unit with it's own built-in amp and speaker so
no need to connect to another system to use. Also has
a 1/4" headphone jack (mono). Also even though it is a "Mono"
system the cartridge / stylus is compatible with all stereo albums /
records. Features Function, Tone and volume controls. Also features a
'Pause' function. Original feet still intact.
Utilizes common 'Astatic' style cartridge / stylus / needle. 'Power /
Pilot' light working fine. The Hamilton 930 also
features a 'suspended plinth' for damping environmental vibrations and
influences instead of just 'spongy feet'.
So a couple of notes about this unit. While these
'school phonographs' aren't known for their 'Hi-Fidelity', this one is
'stronger and clearer' sounding than about any we've ever had. Don't
know why, it just is overall. Secondly, we recently discovered that some
of the 'old school looking', but obviously 'later' Califones have
actually switched to a much less robust drive motor (from a proper
'shaded pole, AC powered' motor, to a very anemic / small DC, powered
motor. "Small" as in smaller than most cassette deck motors!!!), without
necessarily changing their model number. This Hamilton 930 still has a
proper, heavy duty, Shaded Pole, AC motor inside!
Unit is UL listed and has original 3-prong, grounded AC cord intact for
safety. This table is ready to use and looks NEAR
NEW. Really pretty much not a mark on it. Operating instructions
inside lid. Measures 15" wide x 13" deep x 9.5" tall and weighs 18 lbs
unpacked.

speed we have ever had a self contained table run.
