This unique "BLUE MIRROR" glass table-top radio epitomized the art deco era. The bold artistry and craftsmanship provided eye catching appeal, yet served to accentuate the superb functionality and engineering of this one-of-a-kind radio-typical of products of this period. This is the 4-button deluxe model, not the 3-button you commonly see on the web, that is an exceptional reproduction of the Sparton 558 "Sleigh" Model radio, designed by Walter Dorwin Teague, circa 1936, which featured elaborate etching on the glass cabinet and a rectangular illuminating dial scale. Accentuating the design are five wrap-around chrome bars and three attractive chrome control knobs. Companies seemed to take considerable pride in, and strive for competitive
edge designs. Corners were not cut, and premium materials were used.
Radios from the late 30's and early 40's exemplify this trend. This era was
famous for the "Catalins"
and the "Blue
Mirrors" Unfortunately
very few of the original versions of the Catalin, Blue Mirror, and other
cool designed radios of the late 30's and early 40's survived to the
present. If you are lucky enough to find an example, the cost can easily
be many hundreds, to quite a few thousand dollar$. (we sold and original
Catalin for $6,200.00 recently, and some original "blue mirror"
Spartons are bringing as much as $30,000.00). Here's your chance to own a
version of these famous radios without “selling the farm”. Not only
are they much more affordable, but they are much more dependable as they
are solid state as opposed to tubes. They also have FM as well as AM, and
